Sheffield University Takes over Major Office Block
Sheffield’s Hallam University has bought all the office space in a prestigious property near Castle Square, Oneleven Arundel Gate for £4.4m. It is a seven storey building of 38,000 sq ft. The transaction was carried out through Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), a business property consultancy firm. The deal represents the biggest office transaction in the city this year.
Hallam is in the process of focusing its city campus in renovated or new property and will centre its support and administrative services in Arundel Gate. This move will make more space in other accommodation available for teaching and academic uses.
Hallam’s director of estates and facilities, Alex Pettifer said Sheffield Hallam University is amongst the country’s most forward and ground-breaking universities. They have over 30,000 students, 4,000 employees and earnings in excess of £150m.
The building is well situated in Sheffield city centre and has superb accommodation, which will permit growth, and has good access and local facilities for employees. These factors mean that it was an easy choice. They have invested over £100m in the last decade on learning and teaching amenities and they plan to invest another £50m by 2010.
The head of LSH’s Sheffield office, Guy Gilfillan said that the deal means a lot of office space in the city centre is now committed.
